Breast Augmentation in Reno
Breast augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the world, and it’s not hard to imagine why. Fuller and shapelier breasts can accentuate the body, creating a more flattering silhouette – something that many women aspire to have. Through breast augmentation, Dr. Kiener can enhance the size or volume of a woman’s breasts, or correct their symmetry. More importantly, Dr. Kiener strives to achieve natural-looking results to help clients feel more comfortable, not to mention more confident, about their new appearance.
It’s important to note that breast augmentation only increases breast size or projection; it cannot correct sagging breasts. For this reason, breast augmentation may be combined with a breast lift.
Types of Breast Implants
One of the bigger decisions a woman has to make during her consultation is the type of breast implants to use. There are two major types of implants approved by the FDA – saline and silicone.
Saline implants are inserted empty during surgery and then filled with a sterile salt-water solution once they are in place. The FDA allows the use of saline implants on women 18 or older. Silicone implants are more popular, because they appear and feel more natural. This kind of breast implant is prefilled with elastic silicone gel and approved for use on women 22 years or older.
During your consultation, Dr. Kiener will discuss your goals and expectations, and will help you decide which type of breast implant would best fit and complement your body type.
Who Should Get Breast Augmentation?
The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who:
- Wish to improve their body contour and achieve a more feminine appearance
- Want to increase breast size or volume, because they feel their breasts are too small
- Are unhappy with their breasts losing volume due to pregnancy or weight loss
- Want to gain breast symmetry
- Have undergone breast reconstruction and would like to restore a more natural look
The procedure starts with the administration of either a general anesthesia or IV sedation. Dr. Kiener then makes the incisions, and lifts the breast tissue and skin to form a pocket where the implants will be inserted. This could either be under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue. The type of incision (periareolar, inframammary, or transaxillary) and the method of inserting the implants depend on the patient’s body type, the desired breast volume, etc. Dr. Kiener will discuss all your options, along with his recommendations, during your consultation.
After the breast implants have been inserted and positioned correctly, the incisions are closed with sutures, resulting in minimal scarring. Bandages or gauze dressing are applied to support the breasts and also limit their movement. The procedure generally takes one to two hours to complete.
Individuals who undergo breast augmentation usually experience soreness and swelling for several days following the procedure, which is normal and expected. The soreness and swelling will decrease over time, usually within three to four weeks.
Though most patients can get up and about within 24 to 48 hours after surgery, Dr. Kiener recommends his patients get a lot of rest and limit their activities for one to two weeks to speed up the healing process. Strenuous activities such as rigorous exercise or heavy lifting are to be avoided for at least six weeks. Dr. Kiener gives comprehensive postsurgery instructions and care, from pain medication to breast massages, so patients can recover faster and achieve optimal results.
